TTT #56 & 57: All Hallows Eve

Damn it has been a long couple of weeks.  I am pretty sure we survived a tornado while we were camping.  I had a giant rat chew a hole in the outside wall and make a camp of our storage shed.  He actually turned one of our sleeping bags into his nest.  Bright side:  I threw away most of the rat-tainted stuff in the closet and now I have tons of space.  Win.

Due to all of that nonsense, if you are keeping track, I wasn't able to do a playlist last week.  So I decided to make this one a double.  I realize I am posting this very late on Halloween.  But who doesn't love a good Halloween playlist?  Any old time.  Especially that Electric Six song.  Dammit that jams.

Anyway, whether it is Halloween, or not, I really dig this playlist.  Enjoy.

You Came Along And That Freaks Me Out

Dracula's Wedding - Outkast

Yes.  That is Dracula's wedding.  Vlad The Impaler was said to drink the blood of his enemies to gain their strength.  Sounds a little more Highlander and less vampire to me, but hey, to each his own.  He sure was a creepy looking son-of-a-bitch.  I guess he was kind of psychotic too.  Not a vampire in the traditional sense, but definitely batty (see what I did there?).  Go see for yourself...

Vlad again?  Vlad II?

Dracula - The Gorillaz

Not the only fully cartoon band.  You probably thought that The Gorillaz were the original all cartoon band.  But The Archies did it first...

True.

You Remind Me Of The Babe...err wait...

Man With A Hex - Atomic Fireballs

I miss the swing craze in the late 90's.  I wish more good music genres from years past would make a huge come back for no reason at all.

Like...lounge...or jazz...

People ARE Strange...and I am their King

People Are Strange - The Doors

I am a geek.  I am a nerd.  I know this, always have been.  Some of my friends don't view me that way, at least not typically.  I don't hide it.  I love board games (really complicated ones), Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars, Star Trek (Peace brother), Doctor Who.  I where my obsessions on my sleeve.  Literally.  I have tons of shirts.

I have also had, for the most part, relatively well developed social skills.  I am only awkward 10% of the time, at least I think so.  As such awkward people see me as some sort of beacon.  A bridge between two worlds.  The worlds of weird awkward people who don't understand why everyone doesn't play Pokemon and watch Star Wars.  I have always wondered why the awkward are so attracted (not like that) to me.  I like everyone.

Except dweebs.  No one likes dweebs...or douche bags...

Pip Pip

Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones

He got his wish.  His door is black.  Long live The Queen.

*Shiver*

Witch Queen Of New Orleans - Redbone

Marie Laveau is the Voodoo Witch Queen Of New Orleans.  You can still visit various landmarks around New Orleans associated with her.  Her grave site and house are popular stops.  I won't go.  Voodoo freaks me out.  Zombies shouldn't be a thing people mess with.  Especially actual zombies.  Not the lumbering Walking Dead variety but the soulless...nope...that's enough...that picture creeps me out...

Moving on...

Erin Has Only Seen This Twice!?!?!

I Put A Spell On You - Bette Midler

Twice.  My girlfriend has only seen this movie twice.  Sometimes I forget just how young she is and that this may not have been a big hit when she was a kid.  I, however, saw it in the theater and it is now the Halloween version of The Christmas Story for me.

AmokAmokAmok

Another Man With A Hex?

Convinced Of The Hex - The Flaming Lips

I want to ride a giant plastic American Gladiator style ball over the crowds of people.  I would be afraid that they would band together and just drop me and then surround me so I couldn't go anywhere.  Do you have any idea how terrifying it would be to be stuck in a hamster ball in the middle of a crowd like that.  Eeeesh.

X

Helter Skelter - The Beatles

If I wanted to kill somebody I would take this book and beat you to death with it and I wouldn't feel a thing.  It'd be just like walking to the drug store.  Do you feel blame?? Are you mad? Do you feel l'WHodohodfifdhdosinsd sdhfoishsd nwwhow w d d d ddbdbdbdbdbd d dkndinfdfdfs dfoindf w fdfdf bdbdbd dbdbd beeueuiowowb  wbowbd dowbdbwo bdowdbowbdowd bod bwo wdobwobdbw

Feed My Frankenstein - Alice Cooper

Meel-ee-Wah-Kay

 Hmm?

What? - Rob Zombie

I don't have to tell you anything.

My First Time

Walking With A Ghost - Tegan & Sara

This was the first song I ever heard by Tegan & Sara.  Now it is actually my least favorite song by them.  Usually when that happens it is the only song you like and you hate what the band actually sounds like.  It's nice when it is the complete opposite and a song you really like leads you to a band with a much deeper sound than people usually give them credit for.

Plus they aren't bad to look at neither.

My Song Of The Moment

Devil Nights - Electric Six

I couldn't find any decent pictures for this song.  For whatever reason though, this picture popped up.  I love Workaholics it is an hilarious show.  You should watch, or you will be the punk bitch Danny.

Nights with the Deville...

Second only to the Geico Camel

Somebody's Watching Me - Mysto & Pizzi

MikeMikeMike Guess what day it is?

Had To Be On Here

Thriller - Michael Jackson

You can't have a Halloween list without Thriller.  It's just not allowed.  It is un-American.  For those of you either not from the US or have never visited the States, this is our Halloween anthem.  People do the dance from the video like crazy.

YouTube it.

SHE PASSED THE TEST!

Jump In The Line - Harry Belafonte

I recently heard that both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton have signed on to do a sequel to Beetlejuice.  I hope they do it justice.  That is a great movie.  I also hope that he leaves Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp out of it.  I love them both.  That's Captain Jack and Bellatrix Lestrange.  But I need to see some Tim Burton without either of them.  Just to see if he can still do it.

That's it.  I don't think this playlist will be too popular since Halloween is almost over.  But I still think it is one of the better playlists I have posted.  Let me know what you guys think.

TTT #55: Broadway Meets Hollywood

I felt a little whimsical this week.  This has been bopping around my brain for a couple weeks.  This week felt like Broadway week.  I decided to go with the movie versions because, well, I don't have access to decent epic Broadway level theater where I live.  I have never even been to a Broadway play.  I want to.  Soooo bad.

My sister lived in New York for a bit, but she left before I could take advantage of her.  My other sister went to see Wicked without me.  Damn, my family sucks sometimes.  All moving and getting gifted tickets without me getting to take advantage of them.  Selfish.

This is as close I may ever get...so we'll start big...

Les Miserables

I Dreamed A Dream - Anne Hathaway

I have listened to many versions of this song.  Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel & Lea Michelle, Ruthie Henshall even Susan Boyle.  Anne Hathaway's version of this song is the only one that has ever actually moved me to tears.  They were manly, bearded lumberjack type tears, but she still made them show up.

My favorite on this list.  I can listen to it over and over.  When she sings "I had a dream my life would be, so different from this hell I'm living" I almost lose it every time.  I get literal full body chills every time I listen to this song.  Every. Single. Time.   Love it.  First.

Rent #1

Seasons Of Love - Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Rosario Dawson, Jesse L. Martin, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Idina Menzel, Tracie Thoms & Taye Diggs (whew!)

How do YOU measure a year?  I know they go by a hell of a lot quicker than they used to.  It's interesting that the older I get, the quicker the years seem to pass.  It's unfortunate really.  Anyway, this is by far my second favorite song on this list. While I don't get chills every time I listen to it, I do really love the way the guy from Law & Order belts out his little solo.  Best part.

I know it's Jesse L. Martin by the way, it just makes me laugh to say that guy from Law & Order.

Wicked

Defying Gravity - Lea Michelle & Chris Colfer

This was from Glee.  Don't hold that against it (I think Glee is just a vehicle to sale songs on iTunes), in my opinion this is a great version.  While it isn't as strong as Idina Menzel's original version.  If they were Idina Menzel they wouldn't be on Glee.  Just sayin.

Little Shop Of Horrors

Suddenly Seymour - Rick Moranis & Ellen Greene

Little Shop of Horrors, or as I like to call it Steve Martin deserved to die for being a complete psycho, was probably one of the first musicals I really got into when I was a kid.

Fact you may not know:  The girl's who played Gina & Pam (Tisha Campbell & Tichina Arnold respectively) on Martin in the 90's are in the 50's style girl group in the intro of this movie.

Rent #2

Light My Candle - Rosario Dawson (Mmm) & Adam Pascal

This is my lady's favorite.  I included it because I lerv her.  Plus it's a jamming, albeit sad, song.

Would YOU light MY candle? eh?

Chicago

We Both Reached For The Gun - Richard Gere & The Cast

I think this is the best jazz song about how a lawyer can spin anything and make the sheep like media believe anything he says.  That Richard Gere is a silver tongued devil.

I mean, she killed John C. Reilly.  How nice does he seem?  I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill John C. Reilly.  She was a prohibition era Paris Hilton. Except she killed someone instead of made a sex tape.  Maybe that's a bad example...Stupid Roxie.

Grease

You're The One That I Want - John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John & Cast

Who doesn't know the words to this song?  I won't say I know them, but I know more than is probably socially excepted amongst heterosexual males.  But most heterosexual males are idiots, so I can stand not being lumped into that group.  I am heterosexual though.  I know I am making a playlist based on musicals and Broadway plays and theater nerds that are guys are generally gay.  But I'm not.

Don't stereotype.  It's not nice.  Just because someone is into musical theater doesn't mean they're gay.  That's just ignorant.  Geez...

The Producers

Keep It Gay - Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Gary Beach, Roger Bart & Cast

Shut up.

I had a dream my life would be, so different from this hell I'm living.  *shivers*

TTT #54: Songs I Can't Seem To Get Out Of My Head This Week

This has been a bleh kind of week.  I thought about just posting the playlist without and commentary.  I thought that would be depriving you of my witticisms, and we can't have that.  Some of the songs on this list are new to me this week, some are old friends.

Although, I am not at all sure I will have anything worth while to say this week.  This will truly be the pedantic ramblings of my sleep deprived mind. Enjoy.

South American Gold

Chocolate - The 1975

I have to thank 8tracks.com user Suisighdal for this one.  It has quickly become one of my favorite bands of the moment.  I need to kind of slow it down actually.  I have been playing their album at work all this week.  I don't want to burn out before I have even gotten started.

One State Of Matter

Liquefy - The Servant

This song has been on my radar for a few years.  I first heard the song Cells on the trailer for Sin City.  I got the album and fell head over heals for The Servant.  If you like catchy pop songs sung by a Brit with a flair for interesting lyrics, The Servant is your band.

Let Me Be Your Ruler

Royals - Lorde

I just found out that Lorde is a 17 year old from Auckland, New Zealand.  Like, just now.  I am going to let that sink in.  I can't even remember where I heard this song first.  It is, however, the top of my list for songs that will become popular, become people's favorite song without people understanding at all what she is even remotely singing about.  I love ignorance.

I's In Lerv

Angels - The XX

These guys did a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR.  It was a really good show.  They actually sound very similar to their record live.  I love it when a band captures, or as close as possible, their live sound on tape (or...disk...).  It makes me respect a band a lot more when they are able to bring their live musical vision to your car without any loss in quality or feeling.

Best Little What?

The Brothel - Susanne Sundfor

Norwegian Singers.  I like Ane Brun I like like Susanne Sundfor.  I like them both.  I think that Norwegian singers have a certain tone that no others do.  I am making that up, of course, but I think it is a valid reason for me to listen to more Norwegian singers.

They give me Norwegian Wood.  Sorry.  I tried not to make that joke.

My Mudder She Hold Me...

Ode To My Family - The Cranberries

One of the best singers of my generation, or the generation right before mine.  I've never been 100% on how the generations are divided.  It think it might just be a scam and whoever you affiliate with is your generation, like street gangs.  Either way I would love to see The Cranberries live.  I bet she sounds exactly the same as she ever did.

On a side note, that picture up there is how I will always remember Dolores O'Riordan.  That or...

If You Love Something...

Let Her Go - Passenger

This is my absolute favorite song of the moment.  Great song.  Great voice.  Great lyrics.  Decent beard.

Winner in my book.

NaNaNaNANaNaNaNA Re-eh-eh-eh-eh-ady

Come & Get It - Selena Gomez

Don't judge me.  I don't care.  This is my blog.  This is where if I were a douche bag I would say the shortened version of you only live once that was made popular by Drake.  I will not type it though.  Ever.

When you're ready come and get it...When you're Re-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-dy....

That's it for this week folks.  Leave comments and suggestions.

TTT #53: I Protest.

So earlier this week The United States Government closed.  As a tax paying citizen of the United States I was unaware that when my government couldn't come to an agreement they could just take the week off, with pay.  I wish I could make sweeping decisions like that.

"I don't want to do that today." - Kenny
"Well you are gonna..." - The Establishment
"Nuh uh..." - Kenny
"Uh Yessir...you are..." - Nazis
"Well I guess we'll agree to disagree..." - Kenny
"How about we just close for the next week and we can still get paid and anyone that relies on this place being open can just stuff it? - A Moron

I truly think it's amazing that a government could do that.  Until this week, I wasn't even aware it was a thing.  Sadly though, here in "the greatest country in the world"...

...our government can do whatever the hell they want and they have the people so brainwashed they think it is a great idea, and will continue to elect them, but bitch about what they do in the same day.

Anyway...music!

Where HAVE all the flowers gone?!?

Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival

THE definitive Vietnam War movie song.  I think this and Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones is in every single Vietnam War movie in existence.  They have a right to be.   In this song John Fogerty sings about how he is being sent to war because he is not fortunate enough to be a senator's son.  Because, ya see, senator's son's don't HAVE to join the military.  In fact, most don't.  Remember when the government of your country were the first one's in the fight?

Don't Give Up The Fight

Get Up, Stand Up - Bob Marley

This will be one of two Bob Marley songs on here.  Anyone familiar with Marley and his ideals will understand I think why these are on this playlist.  History is made by people who stand up for what is right.  They wouldn't give up.  They fought for what they believed in and they didn't give up.  No matter the cost.

Stand

Won't Back Down - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Sorry for making the picture so large, but you had to be able to see what The Cap had to say.  I'll leave Mr. Rogers (heh) to it.

We're Gettin There

A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

Just because the majority of people think something is right, doesn't make it right.  You should take everyone on an individual basis.  Don't judge because of their hair, clothes, skin color, heritage, religion, lack of religion, language, belief, level of awkwardness, or anything that generates exclusivity.

Fight the urge.  We all judge.  How much you judge is up to you.  Be inclusive.  Invite someone in.  Say hello to someone that you normally wouldn't.  Just be nice.  Be.  Nice.  It's not always easy but it would make the world a better place.  It's easy to say that it would have no effect because not everyone would be nice.  That kind of thinking will always keep the world down.  It will eventually take over.

Be. Nice. Simple.

DoubleVision

Redemption Song - Bob Marley

I know I have already included this song on a past playlist, that playlist only had 9 plays and was quite a while back.  Plus, how could I not include this song.  On this one I will let the song speak for me.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.

We Will Not Fit In...We Will Not Give In

Spirits of The Revolution - Larry Estridge

This is one of my favorite protest songs.  I heard it on NPR at 3 AM one night.  Finding it was not easy.  I think it sums up this post and my feelings perfectly.

Congressmen

Time They Are A Changin' - Bob Dylan

I truly hope that times are changing for the better and we don't end up in some sort of Orwellian tragedy.  I don't want to see The Ministry of Love become an actual thing.  Although the NSA do have a certain Thought Police vibe.  Shit, we may already be there.

I had to do it...

Do You Hear The People Sing? - Aaron Tveit, Eddie Redmayne, Students & Les Misérables Cast

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of the people
who will not be slaves again

I am afraid I will see a second American Revolution in my lifetime.  Either that or we will be taken over.  We have long had the luxury of not having our wars and conflicts take place within the borders of our own country.  I don't think that luck will hold out forever.  I would like to believe that the United States Government wouldn't destroy the country before they would give up power.  I would like to believe that.

Final Thoughts

The biggest problem with the world today is people fear being thought of as stupid.  There was a time when, if you didn't understand something, you would try and learn more so as not to be ignorant.  Now people shun intelligence and revere ignorance.  To some ignorance is a badge of honor.

People too afraid to admit they don't understand something are among the most dangerous in the world, at least in my opinion.

Don't form opinions on something you don't fully understand.  It makes you look like a moron.  If you are a moron, or look, act, or think like one, don't vote.  Pleeeease, just...just don't vote.

I will now leave it all up to you.  =)
