TTT #22: One Among The Fence

COHEED!!  That's right folks an all Coheed & Cambria playlist.  I am going to see them this Saturday in Houston and I feel it is only appropriate.

A few caveats:  1.  There will be no 8tracks.com playlist this week as they only allow 2 songs by one artist on a playlist (lame, I know) SO you will have to enjoy it using either the youtube playlist or Spotify.  2.  I didn't really know what to put for each pic.  So I googled the song title and chose my fav pic that I saw on the first page.  So that will explain that insanity...

Anyway, give them a chance if you don't like them.  They might be one of those bands that has to grow on you.  I have a roughly diverse mix of general Coheed-ness here for your fine ear holes.  Some people can't get past the voice.  Usually, if you like Rush, you'll like Coheed.  I really dig them and here is why...

Ya see Coheed & Cambria is a concept band (I'll be brief).  All of their songs are about two characters named, you guessed it, Coheed & Cambria.  The albums and songs are epic stories about Coheed & Cambria and the world in which they live.  They even have graphic novels/comic books if you would like to delve further into the lore.  The name of the comic book is Armory Wars and if you want to know more about the whole story go here.

On with it...

Theresa

Mother Superior

I just love that picture.  It cracks me up.  This is by far one of my favorite Coheed songs.  It has the heavier, although not too heavy, stuff that I like plus the really, really mellow stuff that I have come to depend on from Claudio Sanchez.

Do you know who I am?

Here We Are Juggarnaut

I am foreseeing a problem with this pics.  I like to think he just got hit in the head, but not hard enough to stop the rock.  This song is muh jam...I don't really think I am going to have a lot to say on most of these.  It will just be babbling...

Necklace?

Pearl Of The Stars

See that one isn't so bad...  It feel like a future cityscape, which is fitting.  While I love the heavy stuff Coheed puts out.  I always find myself naturally drawn to the mellow side of music.  This song has a nice vibe to it and I really....bla bla bla...I'm not gonna do this for the rest of the songs....it's just silly...you don't care...I don't really wanna write it so let's see...hmmmm

Bang!

Delirium Trigger

Don't ask, because I don't know what's going on there. But it made me laugh and shudder at the same time...so there it is.  Hmmmm...topic...topic...this is the first song I ever heard by Coheed waaaaaay back when mp3.com was a thing and someone told me the lead singer kinda looked like me.  The first of many, many, many times...

\m/  \m/

Everything Evil

That one isn't that funny, but Zack Galifianakis is, so there.  Ya know coming back to how much I look like Claudio Sanchez (lead singer for Coheed, keep up)  I have been told that countless times.  I sometimes get confused for him at Coheed shows, which is funny.  I like seeing the disappointment on people's faces...does that make me sinister?  I'm right handed....

Simo Hayah

A Favor House Atlantic

I think it is fair to say that this is the song that truly hooked me and made me sit down and listen to more Coheed.  I liked Delirium Trigger but In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth 3, that album, that made me love Coheed.

 Bowie City

 The Suffering

That's what your brain looks like after a Coheed show.  Ask anyone.  Ya know I have actually made friends because of Coheed.  I have a friend named Annie just because I would keep seeing her and her man at shows.  She referred to me as Claudio-not-Claudio for a very long time.  Years before I was just Kenny.  She moved to New York.  She will be jealous that she isn't seeing Coheed on Saturday.   I doubt she reads this but =P nonetheless...

Rock Band almost ruined this for me...

Welcome Home

I have played this song so many times on Rock Band 2 I almost hate this song.  Almost.  It still jams.  I'm jamming it right now.  It is the ultimate song about killing and burying those that cheat on you...

I'm watching you...

Does he marry the Beforewoman?

The Afterman

I chose that picture for obvious reasons.  It's like he just went 'heh'...

Gub'ment

No World For Tomorrow

Ya know with all this North Korea uranium stuff in the news I often wonder if there will be a world tomorrow...but let's not get Geo-political in this piece.  Coheed.

Shine & Break

 The Light & The Glass

I didn't choose this picture because he plays like this in this song I chose it because that is what he does right before my girlfriend, yes MY girlfriend, loses her shit.

Ya see the first time she saw me I spent many hours trying to unlock her car keys from her car because she had locked them inside.  I had only know her a couple of hours but we got to talking and a rom com later here we are.  Of course it's a little more Judd Apatow than You've Got Mail but I digress.  We bonded over Coheed.  So had it not been for Coheed we probably would not be together.  Because she only wanted to date me because I looked moderately like the fella up there chompin on the guitar.

Tis life.  Hey, it got me a lady.  A good one too (most days). Love ya!  See I put that picture up there just for you.

That's it this week folks.  I hope you give everything a chance.  They are truly an epic band that must be listened to repeatedly  to truly appreciate everything they have to offer.

Until next week.  KKNY signing off...

Starting over

Today, we received news that we are NOT going to be living in the northeast (as I, no-so-secretly preferred) but we are going to be starting again in the south. Probably a little further west than home base. It's great news! But, I am a little sad we aren't going back to Jersey. I really had a great time up there. We are setting up for a new adventure. The Jersey/NYC adventure is over for now. What's next...? I am not certain, but I KNOW it we are taken care of. The Lord has always provided and never left us hanging. I can't wait to see what we get to do next. It's going to be fun, I know it!

I spoke with our guest DJ from last week...DJ bebe evans....and I am leaving you guys with a couple of my favorite spanish/latin/other songs...You may like it...you may not get it...to each his own.

It's musical monday people...and I don't have a theme. I'm winging it.

First up is Postales by Federico Aubele

This is slow, melodic...groovy.

Number 2 is El Pueblo Unido by Theivery Corporation

Number 3 is Maria Jose by Federico Aubele

you are right...I like me some Federico...the guitar...the haunting melodies...glass of wine....good food (imagine it)

#4 Lebanese blonde by thievery corporation

love love love this song!

I will end it with a FRENCH zinger...(cuz you didn't expect it)

Have fun with it. I hope you get it. (**smile**)
Have a Great Week Everybody!

TTT# 21: Fiebre de Cabaña

This week we have a special treat.  My girlfriend, the one that thinks I post too much Indie, is going to do a guest playlist this week.  All accolades and jeers must be pointed solely in her direction.  I am merely a facilitator.  I will now leave you in her capable hands.  Enjoy.

¡Hola! Me llamo Erin y soy novia de Kenny. A mi me gusta ir a la play.
...that's enough Spanish. Seriously though, we've been having a really strange winter this year. I've actually had to wear my sassy winter coat more than once. That, in and of itself, is super weird for SWLA.

I've had a terrible case of cabin fever as of late. The only thing getting me through this crazy winter is thinking of the beach. My dream is to own a cozy beach cabin right on the beach somewhere the water isn't brown. I'm looking at you, Galveston Beach.  However, the only coast I live anywhere near is the Third Coast....so Galveston Beach it is! This playlist is just a handful of songs that remind me of heading down that road in the middle of Nowhere, Texas in order to get to the beach. If I close my eyes tightly, I can feel the heat on my arms and face. In all actuality, that's just us blasting the heater in our apartment.

All Locked Down Like A Penitentiareeeeee

Summertime - Sublime

Sublime's discography just screams summer to me. It was very tempting to just compile a Sublime's greatest hits playlist and call it a day. However, I do believe the eldest sister isn't entirely fond of Sublime, so I decided to spare her the agony. I went with the obvious choice of a summer inspired song by Sublime. My second choice would have been 40 Oz. To Freedom, which would combine my love of summer AND drinking adult beverages. I digress...ON TO THE NEXT!

Butterfly On The Wind Without A C-a-a-a-are

Beautiful Disaster - 311

My number 2 favorite summer inspired band is 311. I've said for years that the best line up for a show would be Sublime and 311, and a few years ago, Lake Charles actually got that lineup...sort of. Of course, the lead singer passed several years ago. Sublime reformed with some dude named Rome. They now call themselves Sublime with Rome. I was super stoked for this show. However, Sublime With Rome was just...meh.  I've seen a Sublime tribute band called 40 Oz. to Freedom that was way better than what I saw that night at the casino.

Anyways, 311 has all of its original members, for the most part. They were on point. Everything about the show was amazing...except for the drunk chicks trying to be cool in the pit by taking selfies for the duration of the show. I...um...for lack of a better word moshed them out of there. I don't play. Anyways, this easily the best $25 I've ever spent on a show.

So...back to the music...this song makes me wanna drive down the Seawall in Galveston with the windows down and my arm out there doing that wave-y thing that you do with your arm out the window. (Holy run-on sentence, Batman.)

"...but Erin, what about that picture?" Well, dear audience, you see...I Google imaged (Is that a verb now?) the phrase "Beautiful Disaster". The results were disheartening. The amount of pseudo-goth, emo pictures of teenagers with runny eye makeup were astounding. Then I Google imaged "butterfly" because of the lyric "Butterfly on the wind without a care." Again, the results were disheartening. Except now, we have loads of butterfly tramp stamp tattoos. So...I picked a picture of me holding a butterfly. The end. (Also, I'm certain that the eldest hates 311, as well. Sorry)

Kenny Got To Fly With Mark McGrath

Fly - Sugar Ray

I've loved Sugar Ray since this song came out when I was 11. It just has that nice little groove to it that makes me wanna...fly...heh. No, I'm joking. Poorly. It reminds me of chilling on a windy beach with the wind blowing through my hair. Maybe flying a kite...ok, I'm done with the flying references.

Side note: Kenny has an anecdote about being on stage with Mark McGrath. Ask him to tell you guys one day.

Beach Party Time

Rockaway Beach - The Ramones

I feel like the title is pretty self-explanatory. I think this song would be perfect in a soundtrack for a reboot of  Beach Party or Bikini Beach or any of those stereotypical beach movies from back in the early 60's with Annette Funicello. I think it's time for one of those. Also, did you know that there are several beaches called Rockaway Beach? Makes me wanna listen to this song on repeat while being on Rockaway Beach. I'm lame that way.

Tiger Army Never Die

Hechizo De Amor - Tiger Army

Since Galveston Beach is right on the Gulf of Mexico, there is a definite Hispanic influence on the town. I dig 98% of all things Hispanic: food(!), music, culture, language. (Probably explains why my second major is Spanish.) The 2% I don't dig? Drug wars. Get it together, Mexico. Anyways, this song marries 2 things I dig. Spanish and psychobilly. Also, in case you were wondering, the title of this song translates to Love Spell. This song makes me want to rock down the strand find a taco truck and eat some authentic Mexican cuisine. There's a place in town called Victoria's Taqueria that has some amazing tacos that Kenny promised to take me to for lunch once I finish this blog. So...on to the next!

Pervy Pépe

Kokomo - The Muppets

True story: the Muppets version of this song was the first version that I was ever introduced to. In fact, when I heard the Beach Boys version, I thought it odd that they would cover the Muppets. Anyways, my cousin, Sammi, and I rocked this version of the song constantly. Until recently, I didn't even realize that Kokomo was a real place. Oh, the things you learn once you're an adult...

Rolling Through The Jasmine In My Mind

Summer Breeze - Seals & Crofts

I grew up on really cheesy 70's songs. Like this one, for example. I'm not entirely sure why these two have jasmine in their minds. They should probably get that checked out. However, I really like singing the main guitar riff all obnoxious for hours on end to annoy Kenny.

Guess which ones are my feet?

Bubble Toes - Jack Johnson

You guys, if you Google imaged "toes in sand"...you see some really jacked up feet. Again, that's why I chose a picture of myself...and my best friends. This is on Galveston Beach (notice the brown water) for Melissa's bachelorette party. It was just us chilling in a fancy hotel with wine (that we brought into the hotel in a ice chest. We're the classiest.) This song is just nice for a leisurely stroll down the beach with some hobo (preferably Jack Johnson) playing the guitar or ukulele as background music.

It's Astounding That I Can Still Stomach This Song

One Love - Bob Marley

If you ever take a cruise with Carnival (although after recent events, why would you?), they play music on the boat that is summer/tropical inspired. You can imagine that Bob Marley would run rampant through the boat's speakers. You'd be right. However, I can still stomach Bob Marley and all his greatest hits that were played. However, I can't say the same for Land Down Under by Men At Work. The intro to that song is enough to make me die inside a little.

Everything Wrapped Up Tightly in a Neat Little Bow

Summertime - The Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff

This song is everything I love about summer wrapped up in a nice, neat 4 and a half minute package. Thanks, Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Quiero ir a la playa ahora.

Didn't she do such a good job?  Let's hear it for Erin.  KKNY (and Erin) Signing off until next time.  If you would like to hear/see some more guest playlists comment below and let me know if I should let her at it again or kick her in the face a la Bandit.

TTT #20: Lerv!

It's Love Day!!!! That's Valentine's for you folks not in the know.  I thought about just making a generic playlist this week full of lovey dovey songs but I chose instead to dedicate this weeks blog to muh grillfriend.  That's her up there.  She's lovely.  I will be brief, maybe an anecdote or two.  It would have been longer but she is playing quasi-hookie today so my time is limited.

All I ask is that if you are Erin, you know who you are, that you listen to the playlist in its entirety before reading through.  I want you to hear it as a whole without knowing the next song.  You probably won't do that, but I thought I'd ask.  For the rest of you guys, it's a free for all...enjoy.

No Sexy Sax Solo For You...Sorry...

Right Down The Line - Gerry Rafferty

That's us there.  We went to New Orleans for...something.  I forget.  Concert probably.  Coheed maybe.  Anyway, we went to Jackson Square, saw artists, ate muffuletas & beignets and even creeped on a wedding party getting their pics taken.  It was a grand ole day.  See how happy we are?

My Valentine...

Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney & Wings

Idn't she just the cutest?  I think so.  That's an old pic, her hair doesn't look like that anymore.  She changes it so often you'd think she went to hair school.  I think she is due for some drastic, dramatic hair transformation.  Just you wait...

Kiiiiiiis Meeeeee...

Faithfully - Journey

This song doesn't really apply to us as a couple.  But she loves Journey so I thought I'd include it.  If I was a traveling musician this is exactly how I'd feel I believe.  I would also like to apologize for the lovey picture.  I like it.  I had to include at least one serious picture...

My Savior

You wouldn't know it by looking at her but she is my savior.  She saved me from a horrible situation that I won't get into here (not out of privacy but out of length).  She makes me happy and I am glad I met her, even though the circumstances were odd (met her through the guy my ex was cheating on me with, crazy huh?) I love her immensely and am very thankful for her (even when she makes me rush this blog, albeit unintentionally.)

Closest Thing We Have To A Song

I chose this picture for two reasons.  One, I look like I just woke up.  Therefore I need to...wake up...get it?  The other is because it's a good picture of Erin.  This song is as close as we come to having a true song.  We have danced to it.  Seen it live.  Met the singer.  Lots of adventures have we been on...

Short & Sassy

I don't have to tell you how much I love The Weepies.  It's a lot.  Knowing this my love up there decided to buy my tickets to go see them in Houston.  It was a great show.  I had a great time (thanks again Beebs).

Forever Young

When I picture my beebs this is what I see.  This is how my mental picture of her looks.  Of course my memory isn't as grainy and instagram-ed BUT I still really like this picture of her.  She looks calm and collected, rare, she's not giggling though, also rare, it's more of a full gut cackle really, but that is my Erin.  I just love that face *squishes cheeks in my mind* *realized how creepy that was*

Oh Yeah....

See that's the her that I know.  See what I mean?  Gut cackle.  Dammit this picture cracks me up.  I love her so much sometimes I just have to lick her face, it's a sickness really.  I chose this song because it jams and I think she can appreciate it.  Plus, she's simply the best...

Just(in) Cuz

I put this on here just so she can do her little dance to it (oddly similar to the Charleston).  Not every song has to be about loving her.  Sometimes ya just gotta dance.  That is bandit ninjee kicking her in the face.  I don't know what this song is really about honestly so it may not be appropriate so forgive me...*finger dance*

That's it.  That's all my love for today.  I have to pick her up in like 20 minutes.  I think I did good for such a short time.  I love you dear =)  Hope we have a good Valentine's Day.

KKNY giving love...

Thuper Thong Thurthday #19: Foreign Language Bingo!

Ok. So I am fully prepared to lose a couple of you on this one.  However, seeing as how this blog has been read in 10 different countries (seriously, that's a real stat) I have decided to do a foreign language music playlist.

I also decided that in a move that is completely tasteless (and tactless) we are gonna make a guessing game out of it.  See if you can guess the language.  Yeah I know, it's dumb, but it entertains me.  So click the link to see the language...I'll keep it secret til then...So on here it goes.

I will say this before I get to the list.  I truly like all of these songs and I think you should give everyone of them a chance.  On with it...

Brooding Eyes

Cancion Del Mariachi - Los Lobos & Antonio Banderas

Nasonex Bee.  Yeah that's right.  This is a track of the Nasonex bee dropping some mean rhymes in Oh know what could it be, could it be ____?

I Love This Picture

Ca Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand

That's his 80's smoulder.  I am a straight man and even I am having trouble looking directly at it.  If you don't know what language this is, open a book, or watch Eurotrip.  I just realized I told you to open a book if you don't know what language this is.

Seeing as how you don't know the language you can't read the book...so it's ____.  You're welcome...

Do You Remember?

Du Gråter Så Store Tåra - Ane Brun

Don't cheat.  I know that text is very telling BUT which country is it? I don't know...I do know the language though it's _____.  Oddly enough the country is pretty easy to deduce from there, you don't need Benedict Cumberbatch to solve that one for you. (You should watch that show.)

I also would recommend looking up the English version of this song, unless you speak _____, it's a beautiful song.

Pure Moods

Makambo - Geoffery Oryema

This is on my top five Sit In A Dark Room And Contemplate Life songs.  Let it wash over you and just take it in...even if you don't speak _____.

OK that one was hard...that's all I could find.  Deal.

Gent And A Piano

O Mio Babbino Caro - Giacomo Puccini

I couldn't do this playlist and not include at least ONE aria.  Had to be done.  Now what language is she speaking?  Not that it's hard to tell, even if you don't speak the language, but this song is really, really sad.  I think probably one of the saddest songs ever.  Truly.

Puccini was a genius.

Incantation

Dina Lam - Richard Bona

I first learned of this guy from a video of him playing with Bobby McFerrin.  It was transcendent.  I really love the melody of this song.  That mixed with soothing solo bass work is just fantastic.  Like Oryema this is all you get.  I apologize.

He IS from Cameroon though.  So I found that out...

Some People Get All The Luck

Quequ'un M'a Dit - Carla Bruni

Seriously.  Look at her.  A model.  Married the leader of France AND writes and sings beautifully.  It's almost too much to take.  The language should be pretty easy (read that book again...*hinthint*).  This is another song that is really beautiful if you find out what it means.

I wonder if all of these songs are nice...huh...

This Might Be Where I Lose You

Alive - Sa Dingding

This song has a nice little groove to it.  Her voice and the Eastern voicings may not be to your liking.  _______ is actually a very flowy language when sung.  I really like this song and I like the feel of it.  Sometimes that's more important than any other aspect for me.

I think that is why I really like music in languages I don't speak.  It allows me to see if I can feel what they are singing about.  I like to see if I can interpret the meaning.  At the very least the meaning as it pertains to me.

SOV UK

Love Me Or Hate Me - Lady Sovereign

What?  It applies.  It's foreign to me.  Why you ask? ______. Also because that accent is really thick (again, to me) and say 'fank youuuu' instead of 'thank you'.  That is just great.  Plus she's adorable.  Look at that face...

That's it for this week.  I was in a weird mood musically this week so this is what happens when the usual doesn't click with me.  Hope you enjoyed the list.  Feel free (please...) to leave comments down below.  Guesses.  Riddles.  Ridicules.  Whatever.

Is Apple The Enemy?

I know, I know Apple may not be the enemy.  I do actually like some of their products.  I don't buy into the 'Apple is better than PC because it can't get viruses and is just better...' line of thinking.  I do own an iPhone 4.  I really enjoy it.

But I also agree with most of the things in this article.  I, fortunately, am not an early adopter and if what I am using is working just fine for me, then I will continue to use it.  I will say this though, before my girlfriend upgraded to the iPhone 4S she had a iPhone 3G.  When the 4 came out she updated her phone and then it became next to impossible to use.  The new update was way too much for the phone to handle with the hardware it came with.

I think Apple intentionally sent the update out to older phones knowing it would be impossible to rollback to an earlier version without jailbreaking the phone.  Thus they rendered her phone inoperable due to just being so damn slow.  Apple's plan, I believe, was to get her to get a new phone.  They succeeded.  With her tax refund she got a new phone because the 3G was just too slow.

People of this generation are having trouble remembering when it took 15 minutes to download a song.  Hell even 28.8k modems weren't but 15-20 years ago.  My dad remembers thinking a 300 baud modem was lightning.  That was in the 80's.  Tech moves fast but Apple seems ok with you just buying a new phone every year.  Changing their ports so you have to buy all new equipment and accessories and just proprietary everything in general.

If you take care of your PC or your MAC and have sense on the internet, the computer WILL treat you right.  I don't get viruses.  I don't get hacked.  I also run a PC and have an Apple phone.

Check this article out posted by Mike at SilveroakCasino.com he speaks the truth.
