TTT #30: John Hughes Classics

Man this has been a long day.  I think I will actually watch a couple John Hughes movies to calm me down.  Enjoy my misery turned joy.

A Classic Classic

Oh Yeah - Yello

How could this not be the start of the list?  I mean seriously?  Cameron in the car, on the verge of complete breakdown.  You can just picture Abe Froman, The Sausage King Of Chicago.  Great movie.  One of the best.

Just as Hot Now as it was when I was 12

Weird Science - Oingo Boingo

Let's be honest, if a guy could turn a barbie doll into that up there using a 15 year-old's scientific knowledge and a little lightening, There would be a ridiculous amount of Kelly LeBrock's running around...oof...

DAMMIT STAY WITH DUCKIE!

If You Leave - Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

WHY? Why NOT Duckie?  Hmm?  Nothing??  EXACTLY...

Fist Pump Joke

Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds

*points two fingers at eyes, then points two fingers at you*  You mess with the Bull, you'll get the horns...

Rusty is immortal

Holiday Road - Linsdey Buckingham

Marty Moose, Marty Moose.  If I had to count the number of times I have seen this movie it would be uncountable.  True.  While there are many entries into the Lampoon's Vacation series the first is, by far, the absolute best.  When Clark loses his shit and punches Marty The Moose in the face, thus caving in his snout, I lose it to this day.  It being my composure...

Those aren't pillows...

Mess Around - Ray Charles

This scene.  This scene right here is one of my favorite of any comedy.  When he turns into the devil and starts laughing is the finest piece of cinema in the world.  This song leads to their ultimate blow up and then make up...

The Baldheaded Killer Bear of Claire County

Land of A 1,000 Dances - Wilson Pickett

The Old 96'er.  Spin Cycle.  Lips and assholes.  Jet boats.  Big bear chase me.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about you haven't lived....

Honorable Mention

Twist & Shout - The Beatles

I was going to put Wayne Newton, but no.  Just no.  Not my tea.  At least not that song.  So instead you get a song and a screenshot completely unrelated to one another but great nonetheless.

That's it for this week folks.  Hope you enjoyed this trip into some John Hughes movie classics.

Crap, I just realized I didn't list the movies.  I feel everyone should know, and have seen, this entire list.  But for the uninitiated here is the list in order of song (go watch them now):

1.  Ferris Bueller's Day Off
2.  Weird Science
3.  Pretty In Pink
4.  The Breakfast Club
5.  National Lampoon's Vacation
6.  Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Best on this list.)
7.  The Great Outdoors
8.  Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Watch it again.)

Ok.  There go watch those about 40 times a piece and then we can talk.  Homework.

TTT #29: This Is Going To Get Weird...

I had some trouble with the list this week.  I didn't where I wanted to go.  So I've decided to make a playlist that is primarily songs that I have wanted to share but I had no idea how I would form them into one cohesive list.  So here we are, weird stuff, from me. =)

Enjoy.

Ludicrous Speed...

Radar Detector - Darwin Deez

I'm not really sure what's supposed to be going on there in that pic.  The curly hair, I like curly hair.  The head band is a bold choice, but he pulls it off.  More than I could anyway.  I am not sure about the mustache but I feel all men should have beards.  This comes from a straight man.  It just NEEDS to be.  Anyway, this song is super catchy.

Alonzee!!

Run Boy Run - Woodkid

While this is necessarily as weird as the other stuff on this list, probably the most normal honestly.  I really enjoy it.  I like some abnormal pop drums.  The video is weird as hell too.  Plus look at that portrait of the guy.  There are some things going on there....

Freddy Kruger

Yeeeeeah.  I'm just gonna...yeah...

Odd...but surprising...

Fitzpleasure - Alt-J

What is that triangle you ask?  Well friend, that is the name of this band.  It is the symbol that is created when you press ALT-J on a mac.  They liked the idea of it and named their band...it.  Prince style.  In a brilliant move of not-full-of-themselves-like-Prince-edness they chose to let people know they could pronounce it Alt-J.

It's Supposed to Sound Like That

Osaka Loop Line - Discovery

REALLY hard to find a picture of this band.  That is one of the guys from it.  It would seem he was in Vampire Weekend.  I am so aggravated with finding his picture this is all I will say on it.  This song is definitely different, yet the same.  It has a vibe I love. I just can't explain why I love it so much.

Hick Elephant

Southbound Pachyderm - Primus

Just about everything Primus does is off the beaten path and weird as hell.  However, they are extremely talented and make carving a new path actually listenable.  There aren't many bands that shed conventions and go off in weird directions that can actually take you along for the ride as opposed to leaving in a wall of noise.

Hello Again

Sound & Vision - Beck

Now for this you really need to go to Hello-Again.com.  There you will experience and better understand what this song is about.  You must also watch the video for this one.  Aside from the fact that this performance must really be seen to be understood properly, they use just about every damn instrument in the world in that video.  They even have the Riccola Horn and a yodeler.  I mean, come on?  It's worth the listen just for that alone... And if at all possible listen to this track with headphones on, it makes a world of difference...

Just Good 80's Synths

Emphasis - Harald Grosskopf

You know you are in for some 1980 goodness when you see a picture like that pop up.  Awwww yeah...

I got Seoul but I'm not a soldier...

Seoul - Amiina

Look middle sister, quilts!!  Anyway, this is a good mellow out background kind of song.  If you do happen to listen closely you will notice something new every time.

I also just realized that every time I write 'every time' I want to make it one word like everytime.  Sort of like everywhere.  I need that to be a thing...

That's it for this week folks.  As usual leave comments and jibes, love digital pizzas below...

KKNY off for another week...

TTT #28: One You Know/One You Don't: Decades Edition!

I was all over the place for this week's theme.  I had no clue where to go.  So I ended up on a mulit-generational One Ya Know/One Ya Don't.  I didn't go that obscure.  Hardly at all, really.

Let me know what you think.

The Eldest Should Just Skip To Track 3

Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles

No matter how many times I think about it I can't understand how a child of my parents doesn't like The Beatles.  I mean, they're THE BEATLES!  Anyway, she'll skip these two and it will be her loss.  Damn I just realized you are going to skip 5 and 6 too.  Hmm, this list may only be for me...

In The Window no les...

I've Just Seen A Face - The Beatles

This has been one of my favorite Beatles songs since the first time I heard it.  I was covering it 10 minutes later.  I caught it late in life but I really think it is one of their best.  Plus if that is the face you have just seen, how can you not love it.  Did he stub a toe?  Is he winking? Stroke?

Still freaks me out...

Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2 - Pink Floyd

I truly believe that, here in America, we do not teach children to think.  We teach them random facts that they memorize for a test and then promptly forget.  They don't know how to think critically.  They have all of the information in the world in their pocket and they don't even know what to do with it.  Teach people HOW to think.  Let them learn what they want.  People won't remember what they don't find interesting anyway.  So, stop being such a brick teachers...

That picture just freaks me out...

Best.  Album.  Ever.

In The Flesh - Pink Floyd

I chose that picture because it was there when I googled "In The Flesh".  It makes no sense and it makes me laugh.  I like it.  Deal.

This song is awesome.  Love it.  Learn it.  Live it.

Sorry Eldest...I know this is a sore spot...

Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi

Ahh the 80's.  It's hard to believe that those guys up there were once considered both stylish and sexy.  There is a lot going on up there.  I especially like Andrew Dice Drummer all the way to the right and white Prince right next to him.  Anyway, my sister (the middle one) used to play this at top volume every single day after school.  So because of that fact I have very fond memories of this album.  It is also the reason that The Eldest might vomit when she sees/hears it.

I have a question...

Raise Your Hands - Bon Jovi

This will always remind me of when you come upon the Winnebago for the first time in Spaceballs and you see Barf jamming out.  I couldn't find a picture of that like I wanted so you get the bleeps, the sweeps and the creeps...

Later Today MUST be kept

Save Tonight - Eagle-Eye Cherry

That is what he looks like when saving the night.  That is his super hero mobile.  He doesn't look like a pedo at all.  Truly.

Funny thing...

Indecision - Eagle-Eye Cherry

I remember buying this album way back when I was a wee Kenny.  I was drawn to this song immediately.  Still a favorite and it makes its way on to many a playlist.  As for the picture, oddly enough, I couldn't decide what picture to use for this song, so I flipped a coin.  As soon as I did it I realized the irony, and the necessary picture...

Schizo

She's Hearing Voices - Bloc Party

You knew it was coming...

2000's jam.  Rocking the aughts.  Yeah...

He feels it in his fingers...he feels it in his toes...

This Modern Love - Bloc Party

Now if you don't know either of this songs and have never heard of Bloc Party, shame on you.  Of course it might just not be your type of music, which I understand.  I hope you liked it anyway.  Really...did you?

Anyway I'm going to eat and lay down now.  I think I am getting delirious.  In fact I know I am because it took me entirely too long to spell "delirious".  Twice.

KKNY  has had enough today...

TTT #27: Piano Kind Of Day

Holy Shite it's been a long week.  I have worked my bones and muscles to their absolute max.  I have the next three days off and I don't plan on expending any energy that isn't as necessary as sitting on the couch and catching up on various shows and movies that I want to watch.  I will have the laziest weekend known to man.  Oh it will be glorious in its laze...

Anyway, in honor of my meh kind of week.  I have been listening to extremely mellow music.  Not that everything on today's list is mellow.  It just felt like a Piano Kind Of Day.  So here it is...

I will also suggest, once again, that you listen to this list with rainymood.com playing in the back ground.  Helps to calm the nerves...

Also to help with the calm feeling I am going to be doing all (except 1) of the pics this week in black and white.  Because that elevates this to art.

I would also like to thank Texas Wedding Photographer, Matthew T Rader for the use of his broken piano keys pic.  The first of the black and white artistic photos. =)

On with the show...

He just...*sniff*...won't leave the boat...

Playing Love - Ennio Morricone

This song is from the soundtrack to the movie The Legend Of 1900.  It is a movie about a guy raised on a ship that continually crosses the Atlantic.  It's a great movie, especially if you like Tim Roth or early 20th Century Jazz.  Watch it.  You won't regret it.

Random Internet Gem

Soleil - Stephan Moccio

I don't know anything about this guy at all.  I did no research whatsoever.  BUT I really like this song.  It popped up on a Songza playlist and I just really enjoyed it so I thought I'd share it.  Plus he is playing it just for you...see the pic.  That's who it's for...you...

Another Movie

Rather Lovely Thing - Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

This here song is from the movie The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford.  Whew.  Really with that title?  Anyway it has Brad Pitt as JJ and Casey Affleck as Robert Ford.  I think it is a fantastic movie.  Even though you KNOW what is going to happen in the end.  I mean, it's right there in the title.  You still feel like it MIGHT not end that way.  Nick Cave & Warren Ellis did a great job with this soundtrack.  This song sets the main tone of the movie and I think it is very haunting and appropriate.

She don't live here no mo'

9 Crimes - Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan

I have always loved those two together.  I am saddened to hear that due to personal events between them they no longer play together.  Which is just a damn shame.  This song is sad and aaaalmost drags.  You feel like you want it to speed up but if you think about it you know it would completely ruin the song.

Overratediohead

Wish You Were Here - Radiohead & Sparklehorse

Now I have never been a big fan of Radiohead.  Usually the people are WAY too in them and can't comprehend how you don't think Thom Yorke is the greatest song writer ever.  I don't NOT like them.  Just never really listened to enough to make an informed decision.  I do, however, like this version of the Pink Floyd classic.  It lacks the guitar solo BUT he recorded the vocals over the phone so it adds...something...to it.

The Ugly Duckling

The Swan - Camille Saint-Saens

I really wish I knew how to pronounce this guy's last name.  It really bugs me that I don't know how.

I am going to be speeding this up here for the last 3 tracks so as not to be depressed.  Slow music can do that to ya, ya know...

Speed Freaks

Etude in C Minor Op. 10-12 - Frederic Chopin

Talk about speedy fingers.  Man.  Chopin could tear up the old '88.  I like this song strictly from a 'holy crap that is all over the place' standpoint.   Especially if you realize that most of that stuff going on is played with one hand.

Hello my Honey...

The Entertainer - Scott Joplin

That guy right there, he is the master of ragtime.  I have always loved ragtime.  When I first saw the frog singing Ragtime Gal.  In High School when I raced through the piano class book so I could reach this very song.  I just like stride and early jazz.  It's the bee knees...

One Direction...Not...

This one really has to be seen to be believed.  It hearkens back to the five people playing Somebody I Used To Know on one guitar.  If you watch no other video on this list, this is the one that must be seen.

Thought that was a good song to end it on.  End it on an up note.  Don't want to depress everyone out there.  Then no one would ever come back...

Well I hope you enjoyed everything this week.  Leave me comments, suggestion, insults, adorations, abhorations in the box below =)

KKNY is finally off...
