TTT #26: Sir Elton John
This week you are getting The Thuper Thong Playlist a day early because this Thursday I am going to see Sir Elton John in Houston!! Yay! Anyway, I intend to make this a relatively short blog as I am hungry and I just got off work so I am super tired. So on with The Thuper Thong...Wednesday? Doesn't flow right...
Just like the last single artist dedicated playlist, this one won't appear on 8tracks.com. I love that site BUT you can't have a whole playlist of one artist, boo. So you will have to go with Spotify or YouTube on this one.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart
I opened it up with this one because I feel like it has a good vibe to start out a playlist. Not too fast, not too slow. A little head bob-y. Sing it Kiki Dee...
Alligator Jazz
Crocodile Rock
I, once again, just googled the song name and took what I liked. This is what I found for this. I find it way creepier than I think I should. I mean something OBVIOUSLY just happened. The cigarette is hovering over his "lip" and the beer is just about gone. Maybe someone didn't agree with his playing style...or maybe he's gay and they have a problem with that? I hope this isn't a promotion for Crocodile hate crimes. I sure would feel bad...
Any Day really...
Saturday's Alright For Fighting
I don't know that those cats were fighting on a Saturday but it sure made me laugh...
Not The Sharks...
Bennie & The Jets
I'll let that picture speak for itself...
First person to walk backwards on Mars...
Rocket Man
If you haven't seen the movie Rocket Man and like really stupid goofy comedies, you should check it out. It is extremely quotable and makes for an interesting 1.5 hours.
Jake & Elwood
I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues
This has nothing to do with The Blues Brothers in any way but I like them. Even Blues Brothers 2000. Truly.
Miniature Tapper
Tiny Dancer
This song will forever remind me of that scene right there from Almost Famous. I think that is the first time I started to truly appreciate how great this song is. It might even be the first time I heard it...
Did Ewan do it better?
Your Song
Sometimes it is hard for me to decide which version of Your Song I like better. I know that is almost blasphemous to some people but hey, you can only please yourself right?
Well that's it for this week folks. I hope y'all enjoy this list. By the time you read it/ listen to it I may be in Houston watching SEJ tear up the 88. KKNY says "til next week...kids"

TTT #25: Pop Music I Don't Hate...Yet...
I have been battling the last couple of weeks with different ideas for playlists and this one keeps popping up. I don't listen to the radio. Ever. Well, music radio. I like NPR and stuff like that. For the most part though I just listen The Nerdist Podcast or music on my phone. Oh, how lost I'd be without my phone.
Since I don't listen to the radio very often this one took a small amount of research to round out the list. I left some obvious (as they have been on the playlists before) artists off this list. I did my best to do a weird mix because I just like it that way...
I also think the ladies should be pleased near the bottom...don't worry guys...I got your back too...[Purposely cryptic writing]
Lezzz do it

Not Freddie Mercury
Some Nights - fun.
I. Love. Their. Harmonies. I think it is great to see genuine musical talent in music. You don't get to see it very often these days. I just love the multi-layered harmonies that permeate a lot of their music. It has a very Mika or Queen-esque quality to it. I think if you don't like fun. or fun you are just a party pooper.
Best Band Out There Today
I Will Wait - Mumford & Sons
The first time I heard Mumford & Sons the video for Little Lion Man was on MTV at around 4 am. I remember dozing in and out and opening one eye and thinking "oh...that's nice..." Truly. Fast forward a month I find the video randomly on the net and immediately fall in love with Mumford. Sigh No More is an AMAZING album. Everyone should own and spin it on the regular. Truly a talented bunch of guys.
I didn't know it was on THAT soundtrack when I wrote this
A Thousand Years - Christina Perri
The first time I heard CP was her single Jar of Hearts. While I believed it had that over-hooky-get-stuck-in-your-head-but-get-overplayed-quickly vibe. I really like it, and her. Plus she's not bad to look at. Anyone who knows me know I like a good tattooed chick. *winks at Erin* I heard this song on the radio and I thought it was a nice change from the crap that is on the radio most days. It was only upon writing the blog that I realized it was the title song from a Twilight movie. I read Twilight, all of them. Don't judge. It was an exchange. I was to read all 4 books of Twilight and my girlfriend was going to read The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Crappy trade right? Well I read ALL 4 books. (Didn't like em, plus there is a pedo-wolf). She read ONE CHAPTER. Still bitter. Anyway...haven't watched the movies. Doubt I ever will. Still like this song though.
I guess this is the sappy part of the playlist
I Won't Give Up - Jason Mraz
So what do you ladies think of 2013 Mr. A-Z? Long hair...goatee. Don't worry...he won't give up on your even if you don't like him and his fedora.
For realz.
1.21 Gigawatts
Radioactive - Imagine Dragons
I don't know why but when I hear this song I get flashes of Libyans shooting rocket launchers in the Two Pines Mall parking lot. Crazy times. Once they got the Mr. Fusion it was smooth sailing. Running on banana peels and beer cans. But not on roads, no, no, never on roads, don't need em where we're going...
Cats are insane
Sail - AWOLNATION
I could talk about this cool electronic track. But I won't. I will talk about this video. Erin has become unhealthily obsessed with it in the past week. She has probably logged 40 or so views. Of course that could be very forgiving. She might be over 100, who knows. You will watch it a couple of times. You'll share it. It's hilarious. You're welcome.
WE'RE BACK
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up) - Fall Out Boy
Nope that's not a collection of time traveling dinosaurs it's Patrick Stump and gang. I have always been a so-so Fall Out Boy song. But this video has 2 Chainz in it. Since 2 Chainz is one of the craziest rapper names I've heard, still not topping Wale (Wah-Lay) or Wocka Flocka Flame though, I decided to include this. Plus it's catchy. I'm sure I'll hate it in the weeks ahead.
This one is for the ladies...
One More Night - Maroon 5
Let's face it. Adam Levine is Maroon 5. I decided to include that picture for you folks of the male gender liking persuasion. I thought about posting the rest of the pic but I chose against it. If you would like to see the rest of that picture, of which there is a lot, you can go here (NSFW). I must warn you that it might not be entirely safe for the public viewing. Never know who is watching. Judging. Not I. You do you...
This song...oh man...
Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
I know I will grow to hate this song. I love it too much right now and I am going to over play it. I know it. However, this song (and video) are hilarious. You will watch and listen to this over and over and over again. You will probably find yourself walking and humming "I'm gonna pop some tags..." Also if you like this song you should check out Same Love. Good song. Good message. Love. =)
That is the ultimate message no? Love everyone. Yes.
I am putting this here solely to balance the scale that Adam Levine tipped
Mmmm. Nice. So talented.
That's it for this week folks. Hopefully you enjoyed this list even though it sounds like 95% of the radio stations in existence. KKNY signing off til next week folks...
Also here is the real link for Adam Levine you dirty, dirty perv you...

TTT #24: The 90's Was A Rough Year
At the request of The Elder (if you don't like it make up your own nickname) I have decided to make a 90's playlist this week. Now 90's music brings up a lot of different genres to a lot of different people. As I do not know the songs that defined the 90's for you folks I am going to have to make a list that reminds me of the 90's.
Most 90's music reminds me of when I started learning guitar. It was 1995, I was 13 years old. Kurt Cobain was dead but grunge was still going strong...I think. Either way, these songs remind me of the Era the most. From my first concert with The Eldest, The Elder and my best friend at the time J.B. to just tinkering with political rage on my guitar, fist in the air! Tom Morello is still god. Anyway so that is the approach I will be taking...
Here we go...
TTT #24 Playlist

Gwen Stefani Popped My Concert Cherry
Spiderwebs - No Doubt
That is my Gwen Stefani. I think she is still really hot now. But mid 90's punk Gwen will always be the best for me. I also really like most of the stuff and the strange directions that No Doubt has gone to recently. Tragic Kingdom though was just a great, great album. I wanted so hard to be able to hit those harmonics like Tom Dumont when he was just playing chords. It is still one of my favorite things about the way he plays.
Bill Paxton is The Man
Long Way Down - Goo Goo Dolls
This song will forever remind me of the movie Twister. Foooood. Food. Food. (That is that scene in the movie, I'm not just hungry.) It's a great movie. There are some mistakes and some belief suspension (I'm looking at you survive a F5 Tornado with a leather belt). But the soundtrack was killer. And I know you are asking yourself, yes that is Cameron, Truman Capote and the Guy that got blown up in the last season of Lost.
Mr. Stefani
Everything Zen - Bush
So my first concert was No Doubt, Goo Goo Dolls and Bush. It was the perfect time to see each band. It was No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom era. It was before Goo Goo Dolls started doing strictly love songs in the same open key tuning. Sixteen Stone was rocking all over the place and Razorblade Suitcase was on the horizon. I bet I still have that tour shirt somewhere. It was an absolute great show. It was raining cats and dogs when we left and we drove all the way home soaking wet. In a Camaro. But my sisters were great about it and everyone had an awesome time. Plus that guy in the top of the picture looks like a young Vince Vaughn. A little...
Flowers In Your Hair
In Bloom - Nirvana
In the mid 90's Nirvana was a "must learn" for any budding guitar player. Smells Like Teen Spirit is still one of the first 3 songs a new guitarist learns. That's an impressive achievement. In case you were wondering what the 3 songs are:
1. Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple
2. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
3. Iron Man - Black Sabbath
Go ahead. Ask any guitarist. If they don't know these 3 they don't know the instrument. Look at Kurt's face, that is how he feels about everyone learning that song.
Knowledge Is Power
Bulls On Parade - Rage Against The Machine
The perfect blend of rock, rap and politics. I remember buying this CD on an 8th grade band trip to Dallas. We stopped at a mall and a bunch of 13 year old wanna be metal heads walked into the CD store (remember those?). I still remember what each of my friends bought. I bought Rage's Evil Empire. J.B. bought Korn's first album and our friend Adam bought the Ozzy album with Perry Mason on it. So the OBVIOUSLY 13 year old guys walked to the counter and handed the guy the CD's with a Explicit written all over it (Thanks Tipper). I was first, of course, the guy asked for my ID and asked if I was 18. I was like "...uhhhh..." then he said "Don't worry about it dude I'm just f***in' with ya...y'all look like y'all can handle it." I would love to be able to thank that guy for giving me Tom Morello and RATM.
Dave Grohl has Erin's Pants
Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters
Once Nirvana was over and you found out the drummer was the guitarist and lead singer in another band you immediately thought wtf? Then you heard this and you were...there is hope. I will admit I haven't been the biggest fan of The Foo Fighters later stuff, but this album spent a lot of time in my Walkman.
Weirdest Thing On This List
Wynona's Big Brown Beaver - Primus
Another band where I remember exactly when and where I bought the CD. It was at a record shop in Houston. I have $20. The CD new was like $27.99 (remember that shit?) The guy agreed to sell me the store used copy for $20. Don't know if he was allowed but there it is. Tangent: My dad paid $50 for the TWO DISC set of Queens Hits. The first time I saw Season 1 of X-Files on DVD it was $99. So that would be $1,000 for all of the seasons. 64mb Thumb drive used to cost you over $150. Feel old yet? Moving on.
Les Claypool writes some waaaaay out there music. I love it all (well most). I am very glad that I got into Primus. They are a crazy out there band. The video for this song has costumes that make them look like that creepy Duracell Family. Sometimes it's nice just to get some different in your life.
Danelectro Cool Cat
Come As You Are - Nirvana
I remember the Christmas I got my Danelectro Cool Cat. It is a chorus pedal. It is the effect that gives the opening riff of this song that watery feel. I must have played this a million times with that pedal. I still play it anytime I plug in to a chorus pedal...
Red Knight's going down...down down down...
Hey Man, Nice Shot - Filter
Every year (usually) my friends and I go to the Texas Renaissance Festival. We see the joust. Red Knight's going down...down down down inevitably gets chanted. I love The Cable Guy. It is one of my favorite comedies hands down. It seems a lot of people consider it Jim Carrey's worst movie. I strongly, strongly disagree. I can watch this movie over and over. I often do. If it's on, I'm watching. It is a wonderful movie to quote. Ohhhh Biiiilly...
Wine Cooler Gas Giant
Champagne Supernova - Oasis
Remember back in the 90's with the Gallagher brothers got along and Oasis was saying they were the next Beatles? Crazy times. This is my favorite track off of What's the Story Morning Glory?.<--that's weird, yet grammatically correct. I like Wonderwall, I have just taught it to a lot of people and can barely stand to listen to it. Great song though. I also like that song that didn't sound anything like Imagine whatsoever.
No Clue
The Freshmen - The Verve Pipe
I never really understood what this song was about when I was younger. When I got older and started to realize the general theme I got really depressed. Then I got over because the 90's were cool and I had a Tamagotchi.
That's it for this week's list. I had some small trips down memory lane and hope you did too. Let me know what you think aaaand as always leave any suggestions and ideas for playlists in the comments below. Let me know what you think.
KKNY signing off for yet another week of debauching.

Orphans and Tuesdays tunes
This week I am on rotation to feed a very too small kitty, Anakin, for my son and his wife. Feeding a bitty kitty with a bottle that looks like it's for a baby doll tugs the heart strings. He's a cry baby, boom. I said it. BUT... he's adorable and breaks your heart with the tittybaby'ing... this is a real word on my planet....So eat your heart out guys, I'm kissing kitties.
On the healthy eating front, we are forging ever forward. I've lost 3 entire lbs. I've decided to wear the tightest jeans I know to shame myself into eating properly. Much like the animal shaming pics rampant on the web, I am confident this will work too.
I will leave you with a couple of my new favorite songs that motivate me at the gym
For warm-up.... I Follow Rivers by Lykke Li
Once I'm warmed up, and basically resigned to the fact I need to work not just saunter on the treadmill....I turn on Ghosts and Stuff by Deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire
and oldy but has a steady beat that keeps the elliptical rolling, if the beat dies...I'm off the machine. That's just how I roll. Then...next...
is Wiz Khalifa..Black and Yellow..this also has a steady beat that dictates I stay on the dreaded machine...I have to control the dancing, as it is I play the drums on the elliptical and treadmill...I'm that chick that's tapping on her treadmill the WHOLE time...
aha...black and yellow black and yellow black and yellow....it gets in your head.
and the next selection in our Tuesdays tunes is Young Blood by Naked and Famous.
okay....coulpe more....Tongue Tied by Grouplove
and the odd ball selection for the day is...This is cool down music.....
Cruising Through by Goldfish
Happy Tuesday people, St. Patricks Day will be here soon, giving us all a reason to get tanked...we can make it to the weekend!!

TTT #23: Fast And Slow
So here's the deal, my sister does taxes. As any of you folks out there that are savvy to the tax process know the deadline for taxes is looming near. This time of year, the dreaded "Tax Season *shudder*", is obviously her busiest time of year. Lately she has been far behind in her work and has been a frantic citizen of Stressylvania.
So I asked her if she wanted me to dedicate this week's playlist to her, she said yes. Then I asked her what she wanted. She said a lot of words I don't remember BUT the thing I clung to the most was that she wanted two playlists. A fast one for when she needed to get work done and a slow to zone out to. I thought about doing two separate ones in two separate weeks. That seemed silly as her deadline is approaching so this week it is a THUPER Thuper Thong Thurthday! I will be brief so as not to drag the blog on...
On with it...

Title Track
Fast And Slow - The All-American Rejects
I honestly don't feel like this best represents what I was trying to get across but the more you listen to this song the more it gets stuck in your head AND the title is right there in the title. See that?
P.S. Great band live
Thud Thud
Beating Heart Baby - Head Automatica
Now this song should get anyone up off their feet. If you need to be up and moving around Head Automatica is a great band for it. There will be another of their songs later in the list because, well they embody the theme.
Shunshine
Daylight - Matt & Kim
I would like to credit the photograph to whoever's fingers those are. I just really love this song. Matt & Kim are also really good for upbeat, peppy, poppy stuff.
Largest Organ = Skin
Bodies - Savoir Adore
I was going to save this for a different playlist but it is just so bouncy that I couldn't help but include it here.
YouTube is the Internet
Internet Killed The Video Star - The Limousines
This band may have to grow on you, but if you let it they will catch with their little electronic widgets and poppy whatnots.
Define: Disparate
Disparate Youth - Santigold
dis·pa·rate
/ˈdispərit/
Noun
Things so unlike that there is no basis for comparison.
How about that...
Too Soon?
Brooklyn Is Burning - Head Automatica
I told you I was going to play another... Ya know I am still upset that they canceled that show, I would have really liked to see them live...
...do what I want...
I Wanna - All American Rejects
This is just one of those "hum to yourself at your desk" kind of songs...No. Matter. What.
It is, Elder, It is...
Everything Is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack
I don't know if I told you middle sister that I have decided to refer to you as The Elder henceforth on the blog. If Christy is The Eldest, it only stands to reason that you are The Elder. Which by default makes me The Eld, which is...unfortunate.
This song helped me through some rough times. Thanks to a sexy redhead for shooting it my way...
SWITCH *sings Will Smith*
No Airplanes
Blue Ice - Shout Out Louds
What is more soothing than this song and that picture? I mean come on...
Closed
Open - Rhye
I really like this chick. It was a random YouTube find. It just has a nice little groove to it...
Another...
The Letting Go - Mount Moriah
completely random YouTube find (I do that a lot). A very pleasant mistake...
Nothing = No things
Nothing Arrived - The Villagers
The lyrics in this song "I waited for something and something died so I waited for nothing and nothing arrived" may very well be one of my favorite lines from a song ever. I there is a lot in there that isn't obvious on the surface...Great song.
No Excuses
Excuses - The Morning Benders
I file this under "I didn't expect the lead singer to look like that" sort of band. An absolute great song. Plus he talks about going to the "southern tip of your body" which is a very great way to say something really dirty...
You are missing out...
All The Wild Horses - Ray LaMontagne
It is a stone cold fact that men with beards make the best music.
Not Kelaun
Home Again - Michael Kiwanuka
I don't know much about this guy but Erin and I saw him play on Jimmy Fallon with The Roots and it was just grand. Thought I'd share.
Lerv
Lover Letters - Jude
Another just plain old acoustic-y style love song. But a good one nonetheless.
Slowest song ever
Polly Come Home - Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
It's the lead singer for Led Zeppelin and a bluegrass superstar. What the hell else do want?? Given the song is very slow...but it still moves...
Let's it hear it for John Steinbeck!
Heh...
That last one served no purpose but my own amusement. I hope that helped with Tax Season sister. May The Elder bless these lists with her knowledge of numbers and arbitrary tax tricks.
KKNY is now going to go eat some pizza...
